See More of Every Moment

The best days outdoors don't happen under perfect light.

They start before sunrise, when the water is calm and the world is just beginning to brighten. They carry through harsh midday glare, shifting cloud cover and long afternoons on the road home.

Most sunglasses are designed for one moment in the day. Spotters Photochromic lenses are designed for all of them.

Our premium Crown Glass lenses automatically respond to the changing conditions around you, darkening when the sun is at its harshest and becoming lighter as the light softens. The transition is seamless, so your vision stays comfortable from dawn until dusk without ever needing to change lenses.

Whether you're casting across a glassy estuary, driving beneath changing tree cover or spending the day outdoors, your sunglasses are constantly adapting so you can stay focused on what matters.

One pair. Every condition. Every adventure.

Two Technologies. One Extraordinary Lens.

Photochromic technology and polarised lenses each deliver impressive benefits on their own. What makes Spotters different is the way we've combined both technologies into a single premium Crown Glass lens, delivering exceptional clarity in every light condition. On the water, that means the difference between seeing into the water and seeing only the glare reflecting off the surface.

Photochromic Technology

Unlike conventional sunglasses with a fixed tint, Spotters Photochromic lenses intelligently respond to changing UV levels, visible light and temperature.

As conditions become brighter, the lens darkens. As light fades, it becomes lighter again, giving you the right amount of tint exactly when you need it.

No swapping sunglasses. No compromised vision.

Polarised Crown Glass

Every Spotters Photochromic lens is also crafted from premium polarised Crown Glass.

Polarisation permanently filters reflected glare from water, roads, sand and other reflective surfaces, allowing you to see more clearly with greater contrast, sharper definition and reduced eye fatigue.

Combined with the optical purity and scratch resistance of Crown Glass, it delivers the clarity that Spotters is known for.

See how photochromic lenses work

What are photochromic lenses?

Photochromic lenses automatically adjust their tint to changing light conditions, becoming darker in bright environments and lighter as the light softens. The process is completely automatic, giving you comfortable vision throughout the day without changing lenses or swapping sunglasses.

Unlike fixed-tint sunglasses, photochromic lenses continuously adapt to your environment, making them perfect for early morning fishing sessions, long days on the water, driving between open roads and shaded tree cover, hiking, camping and everyday outdoor adventures.

What makes Spotters Photochromic lenses different?

Most photochromic lenses are activated by UV light alone. Spotters Photochromic lenses feature our unique Triple Activation technology, responding to a combination of UV, visible light and temperature.

This allows the lens to react to your total environment rather than a single light source, delivering smoother, more consistent performance throughout the day. Every Spotters Photochromic lens is also crafted from premium polarised Crown Glass, providing exceptional optical clarity, outstanding scratch resistance and industry-leading glare reduction.

Do Spotters Photochromic lenses work behind a car windscreen?

Yes. This is one of the biggest limitations of many standard photochromic lenses.

Most photochromic lenses rely primarily on UV light to activate. Because vehicle windscreens block much of the sun's UV radiation, these lenses often don't darken effectively while you're driving.

Spotters Photochromic lenses are different. Our unique Triple Activation technology responds to UV, visible light and temperature, allowing the lenses to adapt to your total environment rather than UV alone. That means they continue adjusting behind a car windscreen, delivering comfortable vision during long drives, changing weather and shifting light conditions.

How quickly do the lenses adjust?

Spotters Photochromic lenses begin responding within seconds of moving into brighter conditions, gradually darkening as light intensity increases.

When returning to lower light conditions, the lenses lighten more gradually. This controlled transition is a normal characteristic of premium photochromic technology and helps maintain comfortable vision as your environment changes.

How dark do the lenses get?

The level of activation depends on the lens colour and its intended application.

  • Halide reaches the darkest tint and is ideal for bright, high-glare environments.
  • Carbon offers a versatile mid-range tint suited to everyday outdoor activities.
  • Penetrator provides a mid-range bronze tint with enhanced contrast and depth perception, making it an excellent all-round option.
  • Xtreme is a high-contrast yellow lens designed specifically for low light conditions, improving visibility at dawn, dusk and in overcast weather rather than becoming heavily tinted.

Can I get Spotters Photochromic lenses in prescription?

Yes. Selected Spotters Photochromic lenses are available in prescription. Visit our Prescription page to learn more about available options.

Are all Spotters Photochromic lenses polarised?

Yes. Every Spotters lens is crafted from premium polarised Crown Glass. Polarisation permanently eliminates reflected glare from water, roads, sand and other highly reflective surfaces, delivering exceptional clarity, colour contrast and reduced eye fatigue.

Our Photochromic lenses combine this premium polarisation with adaptive photochromic technology, giving you both permanent glare reduction and automatic tint adjustment in a single lens.

Which Spotters Photochromic lens is right for me?

The best lens for you depends on where and how you spend your time outdoors. Here is a simple guide to help you choose:

  • If you fish in bright, open conditions such as offshore or on the open water, choose Halide or Penetrator.
  • If you want one lens for fishing, driving and everyday outdoor use, Carbon or Halide are great all-rounders.
  • If you fish at dawn or dusk, fly fish, sight cast, or often spend time in low light, Xtreme is designed to maximise contrast and visibility.

Why should I choose a photochromic lens instead of a standard polarised lens?

A standard polarised lens provides excellent glare reduction but maintains the same tint all day. As light conditions change, that fixed tint may become too dark or not dark enough.

Spotters Photochromic lenses continuously adjust their tint while maintaining permanent polarisation, so you get the benefits of glare reduction with the optimal level of light transmission from dawn until dusk. The result is clearer, more comfortable vision across a much wider range of conditions without ever needing to change sunglasses.
